It’s a fact that consumers now search more on their mobile devices than on their desktops. This, along with the mobile-friendly changes Google has made to the way they rank websites in search, means that mobile strategy is no longer a nice to have—it is a need to have.

CEOs have now seen the huge business opportunity and are working with their marketing firms to take advantage of the instant reach and engagement with customers through this cost-effective and efficient strategy.

Below are some tips you should consider incorporating into your company’s mobile strategy:

  1. Define your objectives: Before developing a mobile strategy, investigate how your mobile initiatives will help your business grow and achieve its corporate objectives.
  1. Integrate with social media: Social media gives you an opportunity to interact directly with your audience. Create content that is engaging, easily endorsed through sharing buttons, and promoted through social media sponsorships.
  2. Keep your strategy flexible: Because mobile marketing is constantly changing and users are continually providing feedback it is imperative to keep your strategy continually up-to-date so that it reflects these changes in the market.
  3. Use location-based advertisements: Geo-targeted advertising has been around for a number of years but it is now becoming more accurate. This improved accuracy means marketers are seriously considering this tactic as part of their media spend.
  4. Send notifications: Users check their mobile devices multiple times per day. Stay top-of-mind by sending them notifications for coupons, location-based alerts on sales, etc.

  6. Mobile Apps: Apps can boost awareness of and affinity towards a brand but they must be useful, valuable, and functional.

  8. Enlarge fonts: This is an obvious one, but many companies have not amended their website or emails to be mobile-friendly. Ensure that the font size you use is large enough to read on a small screen.
  9. Streamline content: Delete less-useful content from your email marketing so that the reader can focus on the most important information.
  10. Single column layout: Get rid of that navigation bar in your marketing emails. The breaks are too small to tap on a touchscreen phone.
  11. Tappable buttons: Make call to action buttons large enough that users can easily tap them. This includes a linked phone number that mobile users can tap to call.
  12. Call to action: Place the call to action in the upper left-hand corner of your emails.
  13. Implement responsive design: This is the number one recommended design pattern that Google prefers.
  14. Compress image file size: High quality images should be compressed into smaller files. Otherwise, they will take too long to download on mobile devices.
  15. Videos: Make videos mobile compatible. Some license constrained files (such as Flash) are not supported on mobile devices.
